The Secretariat of Ecology and Environmental Management (Segam) announced that the Sierra de Álvarez is not at risk of losing the declaration of Natural Protected Area (ANP), this after a series of speculations carried out in social networks.
It should be recalled that a few days ago, the organization Cambio de Ruta indicated that a court ordered the revocation of the protective sentence that existed in favor of the Sierra de Álvarez, which would cause various companies such as mining companies and all those that carry out activities not regulated in said place “freely carry out what they wish, affecting the environment and the ecosystem due to the lack of interest of the environmental authorities”.
On the other hand, the state agency added that progress is being made in the preparation of the management program for the area that is in the approval procedure after the consultation made previously.
Segam said that it has collaborated with the federal authorities in charge of the issue, and that progress has been made in recent years, since such projects need several years to be built.
Finally, the state agency mentioned that federal agencies have won several settlements before the authorities, so the complainants should be subject to them and, they added, not misinform the population seeking to care for these protected areas.
