Through its social networks, the activist Oscar David Reyes Medrano, denounced that the lawyer Carlos Covarrubias Rendón was beaten by a group of commoners who are in favor of selling their land for real estate purposes.

According to the post, Covarrubias was taking a tour in the Sierra de San Miguelito when he was attacked; he even pointed out Carlos “El Chato” López Medina to be “behind” the mentioned community members.

“The people in charge are the comuneros, they sell land and surely the fractionators are behind them, among them, Chato Lopez, who has been bothered by the activism in defense of the community and the environment”, he said.

It should be recalled that Covarrubias Rendón accused the government of the state of San Luis Potosí and some businessmen of pressuring the community of San Juan de Guadalupe so that they give their lands and thus favor the real estate development in that area.

Reyes Medrano also commented: “We demand that the authorities guarantee the safety of Carlos Covarrubias and the compas who are in the fight.”

In this regard, the Moreno deputy, Marite Hernández Correa, condemned the events and was concerned about the health of the activist who is currently in the hospital.
