Drug seizure doubled last year in SLP
In 2017, the SLP airport registered the confiscation of 85.5 kilos of drugs, twice as much as in 2016; the air terminal was the fifth with the highest increase in the country

In 2017, 85.20 kilograms of drugs were seized at the Ponciano Arriaga International Airport, representing a 101 percent increase in the assurance of banned substances at this air terminal.
Last year, drug seizures at airports in the country reached their highest point since 2008.
According to records of the National Security Commission (CNS), in 2017, 2 thousand 651 kilos of various drugs were seized in various air terminals, representing an increase of 132% compared to 2016.
In the case of San Luis Potosí, the most important seizure was made in October, when elements of the Mexican Army seized 70 kilos of marijuana, during a routine review in a distribution center of a parcel company.
At the time, the Secretariat of National Defense through the Commander of the IV Military Region and the 12 / a. Military Zone, informed the public that during the early hours of October 14, military personnel secured the seizure of 70 kilograms of a pressed green grass with characteristics of the drug known as marijuana.
Said assurance was made at approximately 02:30 hours of that date, in the facilities of the International Airport “Ponciano Arriaga”, when military personnel made a routine review to a distribution center of a parcel company, with the support of the “KENNEL”.
“In this way they were detected in three brown boxes, lined with yellow plastic that contained packages lined with cinnamon and fat tape, transparent plastic and black, of the drug known as marijuana, giving an approximate weight of 70 kg, said package came from the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa, bound for Mexico City”.
The movement of narcotics detected in air terminals is characterized by “micro-trafficking”, easy to hide, but can become large shipments.
According to the Federal Police, some of the forms of drug trafficking detected in the airports of the country are through hidden packaging inside everyday objects, such as accordions, books, sculptures and travel bags; inside suitcases with double bottom; moored or tied with tape around legs and torso in the manner of vests; or introduced into the body orally or vaginally in latex capsules.

For example, already in march of this 2018, with the help of Atila dog, in the regional distribution center of the Estafeta parcel company, located in the San Luis Potosí air terminal, a cardboard box was found inside which contained a bear of stuffed animal, cotton fabric.
Inside the toy there were six transparent plastic shells wrapped in a granulated powder with the characteristics of methamphetamine known as crystal. The approximate weight of the drug was one kilo.
Other seizures in 2017
On March 4th, 2017, elements of the Federal Police seized a cardboard box; from Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco; with destination in Monterrey, Nuevo León; where they located 3,710 kilograms of marijuana.
On October 30, the Federal Police seized more than a thousand units of controlled medication, in addition to a long weapon in the parcel area of the San Luis Potosí Airport.
The State Coordination of the Federal Police managed to confiscate 1,500 units of controlled medication (clobenzorex), in the parcel exchange center of the International Airport “Ponciano Arriaga”, in addition to the confiscation of a long weapon sent from Tijuan, to Baja California with destination to Mexico City.
In the week of October 21 to 29, in the package annex of the international airport “Ponciano Arriaga”, a cardboard box containing 4,100 tablets and 113 controlled medication solutions (clenbuterol, testosterone, methenolone) was secured.

The General Heriberto Jara Airport, in the city of Veracruz, where insurance services grew 3701 percent and 201.5 kilos of drugs were confiscated during the year.
It is followed by General Abelardo L. Rodríguez Airport, in Tijuana, Baja California, where 1,688 kilos of drug were seized, representing an increase of 2960 percent over the previous year.
In third place is the Federal Airport of Bachigualato, in Culiacán, Sinaloa, where 53 kilos of drugs were confiscated, but this amount represents an increase of 192 percent in the seizures.
In fourth place is Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Airport, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where the seizure of 429.70 kilos of drugs represented an increase of 115 percent.
Fifth, the Ponciano Arriaga International Airport in San Luis Potosí is located, where the confiscation of 85.2 kilos of drugs throughout the year meant a 101 percent rebound.
In sixth place was General Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada Airport, in Mexicali, Baja California, where 7.30 kilos of drugs were seized, an increase of 30 percent.
In seventh place was the Cancún Airport, Quintana Roo, where 196.5 kilos of drugs were confiscated, an increase of 12% in insurance.
In eighth place, the International Airport of Mexico City was placed where the seizure of 279.3 kilos of drugs represented an increase of 8 percent.
The main point of conflict is the Abelardo L. Rodríguez de Tijuana airport. Only 40% of all the drugs were confiscated at this airport.
